Franciscan to Offer One-Day Courses for Lawyers and Police Officers

The 探花社区 Criminal Justice Program will hold two continuing education courses, one for law professionals and one for police officers, on Friday, March 25, to cover topics on law, ethics, religion, civil discord, politics, and policing in the United States.

In 鈥淟aw, Ethics, and Religion in America,鈥 Kevin Govern, professor of law at Ave Maria School of Law, will discuss how the unchanging moral directives of natural law should influence a lawyer鈥檚 practice. The course will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration is $149.

In a course for police, law enforcement, and justice professionals, former NYPD detective Bob Matthiessen will address 鈥淐ivil Discord, Politics, and Policing in the U.S.鈥 Bringing his own experiential record into play, he will talk about the defund police movement, the politicization of policing functions, and new approaches to police community relations. The course is from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Registration is $129.

Both courses will include a breakfast and light lunch and will be held at 探花社区 in the St. Joseph Center. For more information and to register online, visit franciscan.edu/law-ethics.
