探花社区 Students to See Pope in Philadelphia
Four busloads of students, three Franciscan friars, and a handful of Franciscan sisters will make a whirlwind trip to see the Pontiff.

STEUBENVILLE, OH鈥 More than 220聽探花社区 students along with three Franciscan TOR聽priests and several Franciscan TOR聽sisters will travel to Philadelphia for the聽September 27 open-air Mass celebrated by Pope Francis.

The four busloads of students will聽leave late Saturday evening, September 26, and arrive near dawn at the聽Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the site for Pope聽Francis鈥 final public event on his聽visit to the United States. Prior to the Sunday, 4:00 p.m. Mass, the Franciscan聽contingent will join the expected 1-2 million people who will聽take in live聽music, speakers, and a Papal Procession, all viewable from more than 40聽jumbotrons set up along the parkway.

Kelly Schaffer, a senior philosophy and聽theology major from Whitehouse, Ohio, is one of the Franciscan students making聽the trip.

Schaffer says, “It will be so enriching聽to be able to hear the Holy Father speak to the United States specifically, and聽hopefully address some of the spiritual聽issues we as a country are facing聽today.”

During his visit to Philadelphia, the聽last leg of his six-day U.S. visit, Pope Francis will also give a speech on聽immigration in front of Independence Hall, attend聽the Festival of Families,聽visit the city鈥檚 largest prison, Curran-Fromhold, meet with seminarians at St.聽Charles Borromeo Seminary, and celebrate Mass at the聽Cathedral Basilica of Sts.聽Peter and Paul.
