STEUBENVILLE, OHIO鈥斕交ㄉ缜 will offer a four-year Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree, starting in the fall 2022 semester.

The program will equip students with the technological and analytical skills needed for engineering careers in manufacturing, medicine, aerospace, robotics, armed forces engineering, and other fields.

鈥淔or as long as buildings need to be cooled and heated, and cars, aircraft, or any mechanical device needs to be built, there will be a need for mechanical engineers,鈥 said Dr. Derek Doroski, 探花社区 Engineering Program director.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, most mechanical engineers with a bachelor鈥檚 degree earn an average salary over $90,000.

Doroski said Franciscan鈥檚 program includes opportunities for students to take concentrations in business and management, plus an MBA option that can be completed with one or two additional years of study.

鈥淏usiness and engineering are closely linked,鈥 said Doroski. 鈥淓ngineers must develop products that meet market demands. As their careers progress, engineers become managers of people and departments.鈥

Unique to Franciscan鈥檚 program, engineering majors will take a sequence of courses in Catholicism, Science, and Technology that examine the ethical implications of technology and emphasize virtue and character formation drawn from the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Franciscan currently offers a four-year software engineering major and a cybersecurity minor, plus a whereby students study for two or three years at Franciscan and then transfer to a partner university that leads to degrees in a wide range of engineering fields.
