U.S. News & World Report Ranks Franciscan in Top 20 of Midwest Universities
This is the 17th consecutive year Franciscan has been ranked in the ``Top Tier.``

STEUBENVILLE, OHIO鈥擳he聽2016聽U.S. News & World Report’s聽Best Colleges guide ranked 探花社区聽20th out of聽137 Midwest Universities. Ranked 30th in last year’s edition, this year’s聽ranking marks the 17th consecutive year Franciscan聽University has received a聽top-tier ranking and the first time the University has made the top 20 in its聽division.

Among the 12 evaluation聽categories used to assess the quality of a university education, Franciscan聽University ranked 4th best聽for its 6-year graduation rate (75 percent) and 8th聽best for its freshman retention rate (86 percent).

Additionally, the聽University placed in the top 2 percent (number 29) among the guide’s 1,376聽ranked schools in the number of聽students studying abroad. Each year, more than 350聽Franciscan students broaden their cultural horizons and deepen their聽understanding of the roots of their Catholic faith during a semester of study聽at a restored 14th-century Carthusian monastery in聽Gaming, Austria. A projected聽380 students鈥攁 record number鈥攚ill study in Austria during the 2015-2016 school聽year.

This year, Franciscan聽University welcomed 640 new freshmen and transfer students, and more than 1,370聽returning聽undergraduate students, meeting its enrollment goals for the 15th聽consecutive year. 聽This year’s top five majors are theology, business,聽nursing, education, and psychology.

Franciscan students come聽with an average GPA of 3.71, which is well above the national average of 3.39.聽Their average ACT聽score is 25.5, 20 percent higher than the national average of 21.

While聽Franciscan students hail from all 50 states and 13 countries, the top five聽states represented by new students include聽Ohio, California, Pennsylvania,聽Virginia, and New York. Fifty percent of the incoming class attended one聽of 21 探花社区聽Youth Conferences held in 12 states and 2 Canadian聽provinces prior to enrolling at Franciscan.

In August, Franciscan聽University was included in FORBES list of America’s Top Colleges, ranking in聽the top 10 percent of all聽degree-granting institutions.
